search for the goddess continuing
Egyptian musk red was a total miss. it's sweet, bubblegum mixed with cooking spices is not what this blog is looking for. If you're into those smells, it could be for you.
for those who use this blog as a way station on the journey to what's remembered, take heart there is some good ahead:
last April before my whirlwind summer began I was testing all sorts of musks from eBay, Etsy, and private websites.
I'll start with the lows:
Zelda:

Egyptian musk:
int he bottle this was faintly AB-sweet floral with powdery notes.
on the skin: saran wrap is the first impression. the second impression is no clean musk fragrance. a very green scent-fresh cut plants.
Egyptian goddess musk:
bottle: deeply floral. matronly. slight sour finish.
on skin: soured damp socks. this was the worst of all the Zelda oils.
Egyptian goddess yellow:
bottle: sharp. not a musk I could identify.
on skin: peppery, almost singularly
clayssheashop (Etsy) Egyptian Musk:
weird and sour in bottle and on skin. sometimes I think these perfume makers are going with must over musk.
extravagant fragrances Egyptian musk rollerball (Etsy)
in bottle: fruity, and a little AB goddessy
on skin: this is like cucumber melon meets Egyptian goddess..it's weird, but not bad. if you like those scents you'll like this.
Here's where we get closer..
Commonscent: Egyptian Musk
This is honestly, very close. There's still something not quite as feminine and it's more floral than powdery. But it is closer. If you mixed this with a bit of powdery musk, you would have your own version of AB
Abdul Kareem Egyptian Musk:
I want this to be it, and it's an almost tie.... but there's just something missing. I think it's probably very hard to find the authentic online, and perhaps that's the issue:
hits many high points: soft, floral, clean
lows: not enough scent... slight chemical resin back note.

Kuumba was another total miss for me. Musty, old... nothing clean fresh or floral. I tried this long ago, and I recently found a body lotion. When I first opened it, it gave me the omg it might be AB replacement... but once on the skin it was gone. Literally gone, there was no scent.
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to go through this, but I am going to order some more oils soon. I'll keep posting until there's none left!
Also, it still stands that if you have an old EG bottle or oil and you can send me a smidge on a piece of paper or Kleenex.... I will pay you!
